Message from Pastor Mori Dear RFUM family As we enter the month of May, we are filled with gratitude and excitement to celebrate Asian Heritage Month. This special time invites us to honor the diverse cultures and heritage of RFUMC. It is an opportunity for us to learn, appreciate, and unite in celebrating the contributions and unique experiences that our Japanese American community brings to our congregation and the wider community. In the Scriptures, we are reminded of the beauty of diversity and the unity that is found in Christ. In Galatians 3:28, the Apostle Paul writes, "There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus." These words affirm that our identity as followers of Christ transcends racial, cultural, and social boundaries. It is a call to embrace and celebrate our differences, recognizing that our unity is found in Christ alone. Throughout history, Japanese culture has offered the world a treasure trove of wisdom, art, science, and spirituality. From the delicate art of flower arrangement (ikebana - YAY Yuko) to the contemplative practice of tea ceremonies (chado), and the intricate craft of origami. Japanese heritage has enriched the human experience in immeasurable ways. As we celebrate Asian Heritage Month, let us open our hearts and minds to the wealth of knowledge and beauty that Japanese and Asian culture has to offer. We pray for unity, harmony, and understanding among all people, and may we be willing to play our part in fostering a more inclusive and loving society. May this Asian Heritage Month be a time of reflection, education, and growth for our congregation and community. May it serve as a reminder of the power of unity found in Christ and the beauty of diversity that reflects God's creativity !! With love and blessings, Mori |
