Links for worship with RFUMC on 03.29.2020

Ravenswood Fellowship United Methodist Church

Links for Worship

We heard not everyone got our last email with all the important information for worship (!). So here it is again, just in case, because technology is weird but being together is important.

Easter Lilies. Want something living to brighten up your stay inside and remind you of resurrection? Request an Easter lily, delivered to your door by one of us, wiped down with sanitizer, for only $14. Fill out this form and we'll get it to you.

Walking Group. Every week people walk together in our church gym for health and community. But while our building in closed the Walking Group takes their community online. And maybe now you can join their Zoom call to check in, support one another, and pray for each other. 8:30 AM on Wednesdays and Fridays. Go to this link here or dial in at 312-626-6799 (Meeting ID: 771 188 446).

Giving Online. You can still support the ministry of RFUMC and now do it easily online! Your financial support helps us transform lives and make disciples of Jesus Christ. Hallelujah! Go to our PayPal page here  or click on the button below to share your gift. PayPal is a secure money service that allows us to receive your generous donation.

Book Club. Like all the things, our book club reading Real Good Church goes online for public health reasons. Log on to the Zoom call at 9 AM using this link or by calling in at 1-312-626-6799 (meeting ID: 419 903 839) on Saturday, March 21 at 9 AM. Read Chapters 8 & 9. Didn't read? Still join!

Young People's Bible Study. Ages 12-18 are invited to join the Zoom discussion of Jesus stories at 9 AM on Sunday mornings. This week we discuss Jesus's final entrance into Jerusalem on a donkey surrounded by folks waving palms. Join the Zoom call here and download the verses for discussion here.

Young Adult Virtual Happy Hour. Calling all 20-30-somethings! Tired after a long day of staring at screen? Join us for another hour of staring at a screen but this time with a delicious drink in your hand and good company. Log on and hang out with your fellow RFUMC young adults TBD. Interested? Email Pastor Erin for more info.

Night Ministry. We used our shared financial resources to contribute $400 to The Night Ministry to support them! The Night Ministry will distribute meals, which will continue our dedication to vulnerable populations and was their recommended way to support their continued ministry at this time. We will NOT distribute meals on March 30.

The grief and promise of resurrection at RFUMC

Ravenswood Fellowship United Methodist Church

The Weekly Newsletter

A Message from Pastor Erin

We continue this "new normal" of worship online. And it seems, everything else has moved, shifted, and taken on new meaning. We try to maintain relationships, community, and social distance. We check in with each other and get rest. We try not to get bored while also being creative with our time. Our walking group, those usually moving their bodies together around our gym on Friday mornings, now move their spirits to a Zoom call where they catch up and pray together. Our Trustees meet to discuss the big business of the church on a Zoom call. And our young people study the Bible together on, you guessed it, a Zoom call. This is a new day for church. And we are reminded that the Church has faced many new practices and changes over its long history. When they met in homes and began to welcome Gentiles (those who spoke Greek) into their community, it probably felt weird and they didn't know if they were doing the right thing. But people relied on the promise of Jesus in Matthew 7, "You will know them by their fruit." Our church continues to produce good fruit in the form of conversations of love, creative ideas for the future, prayers of hope, and financial support for those in need. This is evidence that, although this is a new way of doing Christian community together, we are doing what God is calling us to do at this time. We are bearing good fruit.

So, please continue to interact with each other through phone calls, video chats, and waves of goodwill to your neighbors. Keep the sense of dignity and humanity in these ever changing days.

And won't you join us in worship again this week during, yup, a Zoom call? Be reminded that you are part of something bigger and that God continues to be faithful to the bigger project of God's kingdom. See the information to join all the things below.
