ElEVENTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST

Ravenswood Fellowship United Methodist Church

The Weekly Newsletter

   Message from Pastor Mori

Dear RFUMC Family

Thank you so much for your help with The Night Ministry. Last week after worship, we gathered together and packed sandwich lunch bags for people who are homeless in our city. A special thanks to the RFUMC Night Ministry Coordinator Lisa Goodman, Donna Sagami who helped with shopping, and Cheryl Kato who baked all of the cookies.

Ministry to people who are homeless is a very important ministry to RFUMC. When I think about it, I sometimes wonder how they came to be without a home. There are many reasons why but recently news programs have been focusing on the eviction crisis for the low-income families.

According to CNBC NEWS, "Renters struggling with housing costs because of the pandemic have been shielded from eviction for nearly a year, but now the national ban on such proceedings will expire on July 31."

Millions are worried that they are about to be removed from their homes. Losing a safe place is a tremendous danger because we are threatened by the Delta Variant which has spread across the country. Only a few states have made accommodations for those at risk of being evicted.

CNBC said around 16% of U.S. renters are still behind on their housing payments. Most of them had picked up essential jobs to make ends meet and to ensure that they have a roof over their head. These countless people could not find affordable housing.

When low-income families must pay rent that equates to most of their income to provide their children with homes in safer neighborhoods, how they can provide reliable healthcare?

I want to invite you to pray for them and continue to help them as you are able. Jesus also lived without a home; however, Jesus welcomes everyone.

Pray that everyone has access to a home, a place where they can safely and comfortably rest.
We can prevent people from becoming homeless. This is one of way we serve the world!

Thank you
Blessings

According to Rev. Tyler Sit, pastor of New City Church in Minneapolis (Minneapolis Annual Conference), "Following Jesus and being anti-racist are not separate things." In this video presentation, Rev. Tyler invites the church as a community of followers of Jesus to understand that being anti-racist is a true embodiment of being disciples of Christ and the way we are participating in building the kingdom of God.
