Deep Listening Day is tomorrow!
Tomorrow is Ravenswood Fellowship UMC's Deep Listening Day. Since last year, I have been hearing a lot of concerns and worries about RFUMC's future.
The main concerns are: "most of our member are older," or "we need a next generation leader," or "our building is beautiful, but many parts are broken down," or "church membership is not growing." And people have said, "I don't know the answer Pastor Mori, what can you do?"
Honestly, I don't have an A+ answer, but I know one important thing: that we start to do something to change. However, we have limited financial and human resources to change everything at one time. And we don't know where we need to start and what needs to be different. So, we asked a consultant group to help to redefine "who we are" and "where we are" and "what is the way to go forward" to a healthier tomorrow for Ravenswood Fellowship.
Tomorrow Rev. Beth Estock will visit us and listening to your opinions in small group conversation. She will also be worshiping with us. After the second listening session, we will walk around with Rev. Beth to explore the neighborhood. Please do not lose this chance to meet her!
I hope you can join in-person and meet Rev. Beth. If you didn't have chance to register for Sunday's sessions, please come to the Monday Morning session. We still have spots open during the Monday morning session.

I hope this Deep Listening Day is a starting point to a renewed future for RFUMC.
Thank you so much for your support and prayer for the Early Adopter Team – Sarah, Megan, Dolan, Cody, Yuko, Cheryl and Mori. We have been meeting every month with Rev. Beth and have been preparing for this Deep Listening Day.
After Deep Listening Day, with our opinions gathered, we will start to work to on drawing a blueprint for RFUMC's future with the consultant group.

2021 Annual Conference Updates
Sept. 23: Pre-conference Briefing at 10 am.
Sept. 27: Pre-conference Briefing at 7 pm.
(Choose one briefing to attend. Zoom links will be emailed to anyone who's already registered for Annual Conference. Choose one date most convenient for you. No new registrations required.)
Oct. 1: Ordination and Commissioning Service for the 2021 class at 6 pm. Preacher: Bishop Tracy S. Malone from the East Ohio Conference. Limited in-person attendance (invite only). It will be live-streamed on the NIC Facebook page and YouTube channel.

Main Topic : 3.If our sanctuary is safe and inclusive, how may we challenge ourselves and our community to practice our mission for social justice and the words of Jesus.
Rev. Beth Estock coaches churches all over the United States. She grew up in the Midwest, began her patrol work in the Bible Belt, and then moved to the Pacific Northwest two decades ago. She is an ordained pastor in The United Methodist Church, a contemplative, cultural architect, and futurist. She and her husband, Jeff, and two daughters live in Portland, Oregon.

Justice for Our Children: Call for Remembrance The Native American International Caucus of The United Methodist Church is encouraging churches to create a day of remembrance on Oct. 6 for the hundreds of thousands of tribal children who were taken from their families and placed in boarding schools, often violently, between 1869 and the 1960s. In particular, the caucus calls us to remember those who died while at the schools, and whose bodies were buried far from their homes. Online Lay Servant Ministries course: Rediscovering Our Spiritual Gifts - (Oct. 4 - 15) Cost $75. Participants will interact via online discussions, journals, and videos throughout the two weeks.
