SIXTEENTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST

Ravenswood Fellowship United Methodist Church

The Weekly Newsletter

   Message from Pastor Mori

Dear Ravenswood Fellowship family,

Have you ever had a difficult conversation?

This is the time to consider having a difficult conversation; I say "difficult" because we don't know the answer!

We will talk about Ravenswood Fellowship UMC. Our past and future, our history, and our plans. Also, we will talk about who we are and where we are now. Where do we want to go? We don't have the perfect answer now, but we will figure it out to plan for RFUMC.

And for that, we need your thoughts and opinions because you love this church more than anyone. We have a great consultant group to meet us and help us. Consultant Rev. Beth will be flying over from Portland, Oregon, and will meet us and lead the "difficult conversation" to find the answers for us!

If you have not yet signed up to meet her, please sign-up now. Link here
We will have three groups with the following meeting times. We have prepared virtual opportunities! So, if you cannot join in person, please join using Zoom!

Sunday Sep 19, 9:00-10:30   AM
Sunday Sep 19, 12:00-1:30   PM
Monday Sep 20, 10:00-11:30 AM

Also, she will attend worship with us to experience our service, so please participate in-person if you would like to meet her.

Thank you so much for your support and help with the RFUMC Deep Listening Day. I believe it is an excellent start to drawing the blueprint for where RFUMC might be five or ten years from now.

Blessings

Prayers for the 20th Anniversary of 9/11

We remember, God of history and remembrance, we remember. We remember when the towers fell and the lives were lost; we remember the dust and the smoke, the despair, and the grief. We remember that sense of vulnerability and shock. We remember the numbness that overwhelmed us as we watched our screens for hours and hours, waiting for an explanation and understanding that never came. We remember. Read this prayer by Derek Weber from Discipleship Ministries.

Hurricane Ida Damage Includes UMC Churches!

After spending a week traveling through some of the hardest-hit areas in southeast Louisiana, which suffered extensive damage from Category 4 Hurricane Ida, NIC Disaster Coordinator Colin Monk and his team from First UMC in Morris are heading home. They spent much of the time coordinating relief efforts, delivering supplies, distributing hot meals and sharing a caring heart. Follow their daily updates at facebook.com/nicdisaster. If you are interested in helping in the relief efforts, connect with NIC Disaster Coordinator, Colin Monk at monks5@comcast.net or 815-603-9523.

As the storm moved toward the mid-Atlantic states causing devastating flooding, UMCOR continued to respond with more relief supplies and grants. Read more

Young People Bible Study Fall Book

American Born Chinese by Gene Luen Yang  (Author)

Main question - We will talk about....
  • How do Jin, Danny, and the Monkey King try to fit in? What do they learn about acceptance?

  • How does this book approach the theme of self-acceptance? Why are all the characters trying to be something they're not?

  • How do the fantastical elements of the book reinforce the more realistic ones, and vice versa?

  • Are some stories better-suited to prose than to comics? What sorts of narrative effects are possible in a graphic novel that might not work in another medium?
