ALL SAINTS DAY SUNDAY

Ravenswood Fellowship United Methodist Church

The Weekly Newsletter

   Message from Pastor Mori

Dear RFUMC family.

This Sunday we will have All Saints Day worship.

Do you know when is the All-Saints Day?
Every year on November 1, many Christians around the world observe All Saints Day.
According to Encyclopedia Britannica All Saints Day was originally celebrated on May 13. On 609 AD, May 13, Pope Boniface IV formally recognized All Saints Day as he dedicated the Pantheon in Rome as a church in honor of the Virgin Mary and all martyrs.

And later Pope Gregory III established to the current date of November 1, when he dedicated a chapel in Rome's St. Peter's Basilica in honor of all saints. John Wesley loved All Saints Day. According to UMC.org "The Founder of the Methodist movement, enjoyed and celebrated All Saints Day. In a journal entry from November 1, 1767, Wesley calls it "a festival I truly love." On the same day in 1788, he writes, "I always find this a comfortable day." The following year he calls it "a day that I peculiarly love."

I also love All Saints Sunday too.
All Saints Day is one of my favorite celebrated days in the church calendar because Saints means all saints. What I mean is on St. Patrick's Day we celebrate an individual saint, but on All Saints Day we have chance to celebrate all of the saints recognized as sainthood by God.

The other reason I love All Saints Day is that though the day is understood and celebrated differently in different traditions in the world, I want to say that All Saints Day is "earthly." Under the diverse name in diverse cultural traditions we celebrate our ancestors who we loved.

On All Saints Day Sunday, we will have time to pray and remember saints and their lives and have a time to thank both the saints in glory and God.
Again, thanks for sharing the pictures and your saints' names !!

Blessings

Pfizer Vaccine Approved for Ages 5-11

The CDC has approved use of the Pfizer vaccine for children 5-11 years old. This exciting news allows our young children to be protected from COVID-19 in addition to the age 12-17 bracket previously approved. Pediatric vaccine doses already arrived in Chicago with more being delivered this week. Providers can begin to administer them immediately.

The Pfizer dose for 5-to-11-year-olds is one-third the dose administered to adults. Like adult vaccinations, the pediatric vaccine includes two doses that should be administered three weeks apart. All COVID-19 vaccines for children are free, and no insurance or government ID required.

CDPH recommends families first reach out to their pediatrician or family medical provider to see if appointments are available. The vaccine will also be available at Chicago Public Schools sites, at pharmacies and through CDPH events.

Go to chi.gov/YouthVax for more information.
