Message from Pastor Mori Dear RFUMC Family When was the last time you sat quietly do nothing? Many of American are more comfortable with staying busy because if seems like we are making progress and being productive. However, we know that busyness does not guarantee fruitfulness. Also, in the busyness, we may easily harm our spiritual wellbeing if we lose room for God. Contemplative prayer is one way forward to make a room for being with God. In the book "Being with God," A.J. Sherrill explains that in contemplative prayer both God and the person play a part: "our part is consent, surrender, and stillness. God's part is meeting us in that posture. And there is nothing and no one to fear in completive prayer. We simply tune the frequency of our hearts (and mind and bodies) to God who never stops loving us." We experience a variety of issues and problems every day. Whatever the size of the problems, usually the problem isn't on God's end. Most of time, it is lies with me. So I am running and seeking to find the way to resolve and at the end, I feel overwhelmed and tired by the problems and forget the one who was with me the entire time – God. We forget that being is stronger than doing because if we are doing without being we end up weary, anxious, and tired. I hope that RFUMC family can join the daily morning Lenten prayer and experience contemplative prayer.
