FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT

Ravenswood Fellowship United Methodist Church

The Weekly Newsletter

   Message from Pastor Mori

Dear Friends and Family of Ravenswood Fellowship.

How are you? How is your soul in this season? During Advent we have been thinking about our soul and how we can take a soul reset to live lightly and freely.

During 2021, we had gone through harsh elections and after the election we witnessed the Capital being invaded and we heard news about Asian hate crime and racism; we heard people died on street during the peaceful protest for the justice; we heard sad news of a Wisconsin Christmas parade tragedy; and school gun violence; and still, we have heard our public health would not be safe and our tomorrow is uncertain. Despite all of this, we can hold on to our hope in the promise of God:

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
    and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you;
when you walk through fire you shall not be burned,
    and the flame shall not consume you. (Isaiah 43:2)

As a promise, God sent Jesus Christ on the Christmas Day. Yes. Christmas is so much more than just a holiday; it is a Holy Day. It is a time when our baby Jesus was born to be the Light of the world.

It is a time when our God shows up in the middle of the mess to bring us a message of hope. As we go about our celebrations and festivities this Christmas season, my prayer is that you fully enjoy wholeness in your life and celebrate this story of God's unfailing love for the world.
Invite your family and friends to find hope, joy, peace, and love in baby Jesus Christ!

We invite you to join us for the following special Christmas Eve services, invite your loved ones, friends and neighbors to join us !!

                         Holiday Season YOGA Class Schedule

Dear Friends,

The holiday season is upon us, and with it attendant scheduling changes. Vitality Yoga classes are canceled for Christmas and New Year's Day at Ravenswood Fellowship, as is Chair Yoga on Monday, December 27. Fitness Club classes are a mixed bag, with subs covering 12/23 and 12/28/21; all other Fitness Club classes will proceed as usual, except for 12/25. The regular schedule will resume with a super-fun Chair Yoga class on Monday, January 3, 2022 ! Then we slide into a smooth, chill, January groove ~ a good time for slow, meditative yoga. My specialty!

In the meantime, let's party! There is a full weekend of musical offerings up ahead:

- 12/18: Baby No Name's Fearless Leader, Keralee, presents a Nativity Concert outdoors in Jarvis Square (Jarvis & Greenview) starting at 2 p.m. Loads of fun! Live animals! Joyful singing! Come on by
- 12/19: Taiko Legacy 18 at the Museum of Contemporary Art in downtown Chicago at 220 E. Chicago Ave., 2 p.m. Tickets available now: https://www.taikolegacy.com/tl18/

It is impossible to be bored in this town. Impossible! Enjoy your holiday, however you choose to spend the second half of December and start out 2022. Above all, stay well! & see you soon ~

Peace Out,
Miss Gina.

United Methodists Respond After
Deadly Twisters

United Methodists in Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee and neighboring states are coming to terms with the devastation of a string of tornadoes Dec. 10-11, while also mobilizing quickly to provide food, emergency shelter and other relief.

The storm system that struck on Friday evening into Saturday morning — including one tornado that caused destruction across some 240 miles — is blamed for nearly 90 deaths

A tornado collapsed the roof and walls of an Amazon warehouse in Edwardsville, Ill., killing six people. The storm also caused damage to homes, silos and an FS Plant in several downstate towns. Illinois Great Rivers Disaster Response leaders are assessing needs at this time. Twisters sheared roofs and shattered windows at some United Methodist churches and parsonages, as well as badly damaging congregation members' homes and local businesses in Kentucky and Tennessee. Read more.

Be Alert: Phishing Email Scam

Just in time for the holidays, scammers are at it again pretending to be Bishop Hopkins asking for gift cards or money. Please know Bishop Hopkins would never personally request such donations or any requests to "handle discreetly." One red flag is the sender's email. Bishop Hopkins would not send official emails using an obscure @gmail account. Disregard these phishing emails.

We have made a few changes to the church Leadership List as it was in 2020.
